Uniforms: 1872

Uniform of 1872 type, Major of Infantry - Unknown Service
This was the first style change in Uniforms following the Civil War. We were still following French Military fashion. Note the addition of more buttons and added sleeve lace to make a somewhat more gaudy presentation compared to the relatively plain 1858 Frock Coat that was the pattern throughout the war. Although this uniform still has straps, rank paddles were the new fashion of the da
y.
