Uniform of Major General, United States Army

Sadly not much is currently known about this uniform. It came from a defunct historical society from the east coast. The interior label says ?Property of? and the rest is obliterated probably on purpose. The coat is well made and of high quality. It is unusual that it has buttons in a ?lyre? configuration. Perhaps someone out there can fill in the gaps.
